My Inception

I can't exactly remember when I became interested in the clothes on the bodies around me. My pre-occupation with fashion dates back, as usual, to that indistinct place where interests like these usually begin...in some deprived moment of childhood.

Observe me here, for example, at 2 years old in a boxy floral print jacket (I do look better than my sister though (on the right) --she's totally rockin' the little bo peep look):

And here I am at age 3, wearing what looks to be like a hick-town floral print dress (and er, I grew up in the city). Please excuse the photo sizes.

As you can see, I was rather less fortunate in those days--I mean, it was the '80s after all. But it was only during elementary school that I began to notice the differences between me and my girl-peers (my frenetic bush compared to their be-ribboned ponytails, my year-round tennis shoes compared to their multitude of "jelly" sandals--I could go on). Noting these things, I fantasized in various pieces of (bad) fiction about the clothes I would wear if my parents had more sense (and more money).

In 2000, I reclaimed my agency and subscribed to Twist Magazine (anyone remember them?). From there, I expanded my reading list to Teen Vogue, Vogue, Instyle, Elle, Elle Girl, and the like. And now, here I am, finally, with enough knowledge to meld my own bootleg fashion "expertise" with my general enthusiasm for writing.

Admittedly, I don't always care to dress "fashionably." Perhaps, this blog will change things.

Welcome to my stylish little space.
